How do you think about muslims in the Middle East?
This article is written with my love and respect for my muslims friends all around the world, who showed me their true way of living!
That way is completely different from what the western media is telling us, and the western point of view i have been raised up with. My hope is that there will be a change in the mind from people in Europe to look different to muslims. In my opinion they are people just like us!!
Some personal story's from back in the day...
I still remember my first contact with a muslim in Gouda my home place. I was around 13 years old and i was looking a little bit too long in de eye's from a young boy from Morocco. He got aggressive and asked me why i was looking to him. As a little boy i thought all muslims were like that...
Ten years later this mindset began to change when i met Cemil, Ahmet, Atilla and more friends from Turkey. They showed me that being muslim is something totally different then i thought what it was. They invited me in their homes like i was one of them. I joined them in the Ramadan for a prayer and they explained all the questions i had about their religion and culture without pushing me to convert to their religion. If it's your way you will find it in the Islam they say! إن شاء الله of course!!
Besides my Turkish friends, i want to thank the muslims from Morocco who i meet on my work in Waddinxveen as well. They were treating me in the same way as my Turkish friends.
In the year 2014 i came for the first time in the Middle East. I visited the country's Qatar, Dubai, Jordan, Egypt and Turkey. The hospitality from the people who i met there changed my mind completely. It blowed me away! I have no words for it! I can only say: ماشاء الله for the wonderful muslims i met on my travels!! Specific to be called: Hashem with family and friends!!
I realized that the western media has fooled me the whole time. In a lot off country's in the Middle East it's totally safe to go and the people are not terrorists. They are just like you and me. Struggling through live with their own things to deal with... The basis from where i want to leave is that we are all human. In every country you have people who are doing good and bad things.
So next time you hear something in the social media about the muslims in the Middle East or in general, ask yourself: How do i know this is true? Have i been to the Middle East? Do i know muslims in my surroundings? How are they to me? Let the actions from muslims you know speak for themselves! And i'm suggesting: Don't believe everything what they say on social media!
إن شاء الله والله
Get your backpack out of the closet and come to the Middle East to experience it for yourself how the people are...
